Can Balloon Sinuplasty Improve My Sinus Issues?

When you have recurring sinus problems and medication are not helping, it might be time to consider a more permanent solution. Fortunately, at Northside ENT, serving Carmel, IN, and the surrounding region, Dr. Robert Youkilis, Dr. Jeffrey Beach, and Dr. Seth Bruggers can offer balloon sinuplasty. Before scheduling an appointment for a consultation, though, it helps to do some research about the procedure.

General Information

The doctors are Northside ENT can help decide if a Balloon Sinuplasty is right for you.  This solution can be much easier to recover from than traditional sinus surgery and with less risk.

With this treatment, our practitioner will insert a catheter with a balloon on the end of it into the sinus. The doctor then will inflate the balloon slowly to open the passageway. Once fully blown up, the specialist will deflate the balloon and remove it. The result is that the sinuses remain open.  This can be done either in the office using a gentle local anesthetic technique or in the operating room under general anesthesia.  Recovery from the office procedure is faster and is also usually less expensive!

Who's Eligible

A practitioner from our Carmel, IN, ENT practice may recommend this treatment specifically to patients who have recurring sinus infections that aren't treatable with medication. It could also help those with chronic nasal problems and those who have trouble breathing through their nose.

Recovery From Balloon Sinuplasty

Recovery from Balloon Sinuplasty takes only a few days and you can return to normal physical activities within 24-48 hours. The procedure is extremely safe.  The most common side effects include nasal congestion for up to a week, mild tenderness, and a little bloody nasal drainage for the first 6-12 hours. There is no bruising or swelling of the face.

Benefits of Balloon Sinuplasty

Balloon sinuplasty is known to cause fewer side effects than a surgical procedure. The recovery time is usually quicker. And you can return to your usual activities sooner than if you had more traditional sinus surgery in the operating room.
