Thyroid and Parathyroid Disorders

What are the thyroid and parathyroid glands?

Both the thyroid and parathyroid glands are endocrine glands. This means they make and release hormones into the bloodstream. Thyroid hormones (T3 and T4) affect the body's metabolic rate and might affect things like your heart rate, blood pressure, energy levels, skin and nail growth, and bowel function, just to name a few of its functions. The Parathyroid Hormone (PTH) helps to control the absorption of calcium from your diet as well as the balance of calcium between the bones and the blood stream.

Our physicians are experts at understanding the functions of these vital glands. We also know how to decide when to remove either part or all of these glands when things go wrong. Whether the glands are over-producing their hormones, or when they develop growths that are concerning for cancer, we will help you navigate these tough decisions and get you back to good health. We understand the most up-to-date literature and have experience with the best modern technologies.
